I first stumbled upon the centuries-old Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival — a Southeast Asian fertility ritual to summon the rains — by chance, in 2014, and returned with intent last year, the same day, ten years apart. Only this time, my eyes saw differently — a fevered daydream I’ll never forget.
Set against our era of the Billionaire Rocketman, these photographs honour a living tradition — an act of faith binding community to the sky.
And yes: last year’s rockets broke the drought. Luck? Only the sky gods know.
